Island Ono Loa Grill: Authentic Hawaiian Burgers and Seafood in Kailua-Kona

We tried Island Ono Loa Grill for the first time because we wanted to fill up before we left for Volcano. A burger sounded great (as a brunch option) to last us until dinner. I ended up getting the Roasted Poblano Pepper Jack Cheeseburger with onion rings. We shared a side of the sweet potato friend because the kids loved it. I thought the burger tasted great. Wasn't the best I've ever had, but also wasn't the worst. They were doing some maintenance because the toilet was out and there was a puddle of water by the soda machine so it was hard to get our drinks without getting our feet wet. The cashier was super friendly and answered all our questions and shared her recommendations. They usually make their burgers medium but I got mine medium rare. They validate for HI residents up to two hours if you're parked around the area. We really liked that.

Tried the 8th best burger in the USA and it did not disappoint! You know it's good when you don't need to add anything to it, no need for extra ketchup or whatever is your favorite condiment. Onion rings and tenders where solid as well

Hands down the best BBQ Kalua pork sandwich I have ever had! The house made pineapple Cole slaw was fantastic. Eat here if you are in Kona

Burger was legendary. salad was cut to perfection. wish I could have snapped a photo, but the dang thing looked so good I ate it without further hesitation. Thank you for the bomb burger guys!!

Yes, they have great cheeseburgers, but my favorite is the Kahlua pork plate lunch. very flavorful and huge portions. prices are very reasonable especially for Hawaii and they validate parking!

Yummy food! My burger was generous and full of flavor. I went for the gluten free bun and was not disappointed. It didn't fall apart like some places. Staff were friendly and efficient. There's both in door and outside seating which are great options for when it might be a bit too hot out. If you look home tasting yummy, this is your place!

Amazing burgers! I ordered the Roasted Poblano Peppercheese Burger with onion rings. A perfectly buttered and toasted bun with roasted peppers and their special poblano sauce. Delicious. The burger patty was juicy and well seasoned. Onion rings were great! I love how they season their batter. A bit disappointed that they didn't have any sweet potato fries or the ingredients for their Volcano burger. I will definitely be returning- and hopefully they aren't out of stock this time! Overall, I would highly recommend!

This is apparently the 8th best cheeseburger in the US according to Yelp, so I had to come and try it! I heard it can get really busy, but when we came in the afternoon around 2 pm there was no wait. So unfortunately they were out of a ton of things (basically out of all their sides) and no volcano sauce :( so instead I got a normal cheeseburger, which absolutely was incredible! You can really taste the freshness of the meat and ingredients, and the bun was perfectly toasted. Honestly such a stellar cheeseburger! I also tried a bit of my sister's Roasted Poblano cheeseburger which was super cheesy with a nice soft kick from the poblano. For sides I tried the Mac salad which was zesty and tasty, and the onion rings which were perfectly fried! Will have to come back next time I'm on Big Island to try their volcano sauce burger!

I will think about this place often and 100% be back next time I'm on Kona. We cleaned our plates! The burgers were delicious and the Mac salad was also bomb. The workers were kind and in an overall great mood, good amount of outdoor seating. I got the volcano burger and absolutely recommend it!

What is this sign about having the best burger and why is my stomach responding to it so severely? I wanted a burger and little was gonna stop the King of Yelp from getting one. This very chill little restaurant goes hard with it's burgers and sides. Mac salad and fries are always solid island go-tos when it comes down to game-time decisions. Service is great with staff moving according to the pace of a consistent flow of locals and visitors.
